About ADEGAC
The Association of the Gabonese student at Cape Town is a non-political movement whose mission and objectives are the upholding of the brotherhood atmosphere and the integration of Gabonese student in the community of Cape Town.
The Executive Committee
NB: The Association assists the students by providing the necessary information they need and by facilitating where and when possible. But under no circumstance, does the Association take financial responsibility of the student upon itself
I. The General Assembly
Article1
To be a member of the General assembly one needs:- To be Gabonese
- To be student
- To attend meetings
- To pay his/her membership fees (which are not refundable).
Article2
Role of the General Assembly- It elects the executive committee.
- It has a consultative function in all the decisions of the executive committee.
- It is held once a month and is called by the executive committee
- A special General Assembly may be held before the monthly General Assembly but it decided by the executive committee according to the emergency and the importance of the matter.
- Should the General Assembly be requested by a member of the association, the request will be done by writing.
NB: The decisions of the General Assembly are adopted on the principle of a majority vote during meetings
II. The Executive Committee
Article1
The members of the executive committee are elected by the members of the association for a mandate lasting one year and taking into consideration the South African academic year. Members of the executive committee can only be reelected onceArticle 2
Conditions of eligibi- To be Gabonese
- To be currently registered at a university or tertiary institution in Cape Town
- To have good communication skills both in English and French (written and spoken)
- Be of good morality
- To have decent school results
NB: A copy of their passport, student card and student results should be provided.
Article3
Role of the executive committee- Constitute a hub of communication between the students, the embassy and the tertiary institutions in Cape Town
- Submit proposals to (members of) the association
- Ensure that the vision and objectives of the Association are maintained.
- Organized the election of the next executive committee.
Article4
Portfolio of the executive committee- Secretary General: His/her main role is to maintain the vision and objectives of the association and ensure that they are achieved. He/she is the mediator between the association and the Gabonese administration. The Secretary General is the chairperson of the Association and he/she presides at all meetings.
- Deputy Secretary General: She/he assists the Secretary General in his/her duties and drafts the notices, agendas and distributes them to the members of the association. The Deputy Secretary General presides at meetings in the absence of the Secretary General.
- Treasurer: Handles all the financial matters and together with the accountant they write financial reports.
- Accountant: Controls the actions of the treasurer and drafts financial reports.
- Assistant Accountant: Helps the accountant in his/her duties
- Department of Culture: This department coordinates the club activities and provides all the necessary information regarding tertiary institutions and universities in Cape Town. It also assists the students at registration time, organizes and supervises all events of the association.
- Department of social affairs: This department is in charge of the welcoming of new students and establishes the first contact between them, the embassy and the rest of the Gabonese community. It advises students on dos and don’ts and assists them with all the first essential activities such as opening of bank accounts, finding accommodation. This department is concerned with the integration of the Gabonese student into the South African environment. The department of social affairs also recommends medical aid companies and necessary addresses.
- Department in charge of work opportunities: This department only gives the members of the association information on work opportunities in South Africa and in Gabon. This department does not guarantee immediate job offers to the students. It hears about opportunities and informs the members of the Association and it is their responsibility to make use of it.
- Department of communication: This department is in charge of the maintenance of the website of the association, it is responsible to keep students informed of the decisions of the executive committee and any other matters with regard to the Gabonese community.
